HOW TO START THE DETOX PROCESS
Trying to detoxify your life can be stressful and overwhelming at times.
The more we learn about all the different toxic chemicals we are exposed to on a daily basis, it can seem like an impossible task to ever try to live a clean and pure life.
But the great news is that our bodies do have amazing filtration and detoxification centers (liver, spleen, lymph, and skin) so we can help filter these every-day pollutants out naturally. We do however, want to help our bodies out as much as possible by decreasing our exposure.
One of the biggest toxins that we are exposed to on a daily basis is our cleaning supplies. Did you know that under our sink and laundry room are some of the most toxic places in our homes? That is because many of us store our cleaning supplies, like laundry detergent, bleach, or sanitation wipes in this area. Why are our cleaning supplies so toxic? It’s because the U.S. law allows manufacturers of cleaning supplies to use almost any chemical they want, including ones that are known carcinogens or PFAS (forever chemicals). These chemicals are great at killing bacteria and other “germs”, but are slowly killing our good ones as well.
However, with the increase of awareness that some of the top name-brand cleaning companies produce supplies that are harmful, there has been a large push for “Green” or “Eco-friendly” products. Consumers should proceed with caution, however, because a lot of these companies that claim they use “natural” or “eco-friendly” supplies are in fact lying about it. This is called “green-washing”. This happens when companies will place flashy labels on their containers that they are helping the planet or are made from plants, when, if you just read their ingredient list, they are clearly not. Some of these companies include: Mrs. Meyers, Method, Babyganics, and Greenworks.
Now that you know that the average cleaning supplies may be causing your more harm than help, what do you do?
You have a couple options to help detoxify your life:
There are tons of great non-toxic companies out there that are affordable, and most importantly work! My best advice is to always read the labels and do your own research. Here are some recommendations of products that I use but that does not mean these are set in stone.
